As part of our literacy program, your child will be responsible for reporting on a current event once a month. They will be told about one week in advance and will be required to find a current event in the media (newspaper, radio, television, internet) and report on the following:
-a brief summary of the 5 w’s (who, what, where, when, why, and how)
-why the story is newsworthy (why is it in the news?)
-a relevant connection or their feelings about the issue being discussed in the story
Please use your discretion to help your child choose an appropriate news story for our grade 4 class. Avoid topics with a mature theme (e.g., sexual nature, extreme violence). Have them practise their presentation for you. It does not need to be memorized, but they should be familiar with the vocabulary and content in the story. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at the school.
Thanks, Mr. Palumbo
